Tube strike - local tubes running with reduced service

Transport for London are trying to keep disruption to tube journeys to a minimum today, despite a 24-hour action by the RMT and TSSA unions. A special service is running on the Northern Line with trains running approximately every ten minutes and likely to be busier than usual as a result of reduced frequency.

Local stations are open, but TfL recommend checking routes before you travel using Live Travel News. They also advise using an alternative route or method of transport if possible.

Over a hundred extra buses have been added on key routes, and extra staff are at transport hubs today with advice and information for travellers. "Boris Bikes" are likely to be in heavy demand today. If you own your own bike and fancy a wintery cycle through the capital, there's a cycling journey planner option on TfL's homepage.

The London overground is running as normal, but there is likely to be increased demand and resulting disruption. Car journeys are also likely to take longer as more Londoners swap their Oystercards for car keys - TfL's recommendation is to avoid driving if possible.
