After a successful run of seven years at the top of the Metropolitan League, Highgate Harriers women's team were nudged into second place this year by Woodfood Green with Essex Ladies, who finished champions on 2691 points. Harriers were a close second with 2633 points after an excellent showing at Perivale this weekend.
Abel, Evans and Penty finished as the top three runners in heavy-going, cold conditions to bring the women's team title home, but were unable to overtake the team from Woodford Green and Essex who have had strong showings all year, beginning the weekend 103 points ahead of the Highgate runners.
The men's team finished their league in third place this year, with the Veteran Ladies team making it onto the roll of honour, taking the veteran championship with 845 points.
The future also looks secure with Highgate Under 11 girls "A" team coming first place, and the girls' "B" team coming in third, at the team 1960m event at Barnet Copthall on February 6, Olivia Ripley finishing first with a time of 8min 52. Terry Fawden also won the boys Under 11 2360 metres in a time of 10.58.
