Highgate celebrates A-level results

Students at Highgate schools were celebrating a good round of A-level results this week in another record year nationwide. Pass rates increased despite a new "tougher" examination and the introduction of an extra A* grade for the top-performing pupils.

The wait is over: good results abound in HIghgate
Highgate Wood School in Crouch End celebrated an increased pass rate of 71% at A*- C grade and 98% overall. The school was also happy with its BTEC students' 100 per cent pass rate this year.
La Sainte Union RC Secondary School on Highgate Road celebrated a 93% pass rate, with 60 students at the La Swap consortium of North London comprehensive comprehensive schools, of which LSU is a member, gaining the new A* grades.
Independent Highgate School was also delighted with its students' 91 per cent A*- B grade pass rate, with 70% of the students gaining A* or A grades. Despite the heavy competition for university places this year, all three Highgate schools reported record numbers of students will be starting at university this September.
Pass rates overall in all three local boroughs - Haringey, Islington and Camden - have increased, with Haringey particularly pleased to have results above the national average.
Haringey’s Cabinet Member for Children & Young People, Cllr Lorna Reith, said,"I’m absolutely delighted that so many students have
done so well – not just the ones with As or A*s but everyone who has
worked so hard to get good results."
Provisional data for Islington shows a record 99 per cent pass rate overall in the borough. Camden was also celebrating its ninth consecutive rise in pass rates, to 96.3%.Camden Council's Executive Member for Schools, Cllr Andrew Mennear said, "This is another set of extremely good exam results and all our students should be commended on their achievement. Well done!"
