What are your priorities for policing in London?

The Metropolitan Police Service is asking Londoners what they feel police priorities should be for the next year. The online survey gives everyone living and working in the capital an opportunity to let the Met know about the issues that are most important to them.

Crime in Highgate has historically been fairly low compared to other areas of London, but the area is not completely crime-free. Musician DJ Ironik was stabbed near his home last year, after which the rapper and anti-knife crime campaigner moved away from Highgate. More recently, a knife attack took place last week in the waiting area of Highgate Magistrates Court.
Following last month's riots, many Londoners may wish to see a stronger police presence on the streets, with more beat policing and a larger number of visible officers. Violent crimes and crimes against property may also be on people's minds following three days of looting and arson attacks. Anti-social behaviour is another regular concern across London, with some areas facing intimidating behaviour from gangs or street drinkers.
This year's survey takes place against the backdrop of cuts to police funding, which many Londoners worry will have an impact on frontline services. Changes to local Safer Neighbourhoods teams have already been announced in many local authorities, potentially impacting on the level of dedicated community support. August's riots may well change the way people in the capital think about policing and police priorities.
What do you think? Have your say at http://surveys.mpa.gov.uk/v.asp?i=36261ayoex or download a paper version here. The survey is open until 25 November.
