Transport for London's review of the A1 red route may help local shops
Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone has been campaigning on the issue on behalf of local shopkeepers. "There is no need for there to be a cut off at 4pm on the side that
bears the traffic load in the morning going into town - not in the
afternoon when there is virtually no traffic at all," she wrote in her blog.Featherstone submitted a "strong letter" to Mayor Boris Johnson, and now
Transport
for London has now to review traffic flow along the red route. Local shopkeepers hope that lifting parking restrictions on alternate sides of the road at each end of the day will help trade without causing traffic problems.
"A £60 penalty charge is pretty heavy duty punishment for shopping in
your local shops - so people are changing their shopping habits," adds Featherstone. "These
little parades of shops are vital for people living in the area - let
alone the jobs they provide for local people."
