Do you know a business in Highgate that it cutting carbon emissions? Let Islington council hear about it.
Cycle delivery schemes, community gardens and CO2 reducation by companies have all been recognised by the awards in previous years. This year's awards include new categories for green building and sustainable food.
"The
award is a great way to endorse our green credentials and encourages us
to continue with our efforts," says Thomas Doyle, general manager of Jury's Inn, winner of last year's large business category. "We definitely intend to defend our title
this year."
Cllr Paul Smith,
Islington Council's executive member for environment, adds: "Local
businesses and groups do a lot of work for the environment and this is
our way of recognising their hard work. Often
helping the environment also helps save money - for example by cutting
energy use - which is another reason to get involved."
Businesses will be recognised in seven categories, including improving the local environment, energy and CO2 reduction, waste minimisation and recycling, sustainable transport, green building and sustainable food and eating.
The awards are open to businesses, charities, community groups, social enterprises and schools. Entries
close on 18 September 2010 and the awards ceremony will take place in November.
