September is almost here, and around the country students are sharpening their pencils and shining their shoes ready to go back to school. Here in Highgate there are a range of schools to consider if you're thinking about primary or secondary school choices for next year - let us know what you think about local schools below!

Highgate Primary School is a community school with its own nursery based in Haringey borough, catering for children aged 3-11 years old. The school has 400 children currently on the roll, and was rated "good" by Ofsted last year. The school works in partnership with in partnership with Blanche Nevile School for Deaf Children to provide an inclusive, accessible learning environment and was praised by Ofsted for its "positive school climate".

Also in Haringey, St Michael's Cof E Primary on North Road welcomes children from 3 to 11 years old and is a popular local choice. The school, which has 466 pupils on the roll, was rated "outstanding" in this year's Ofsted inspection and offers a wide range of after-school activities including chess club, gymnastics, gardening, writing and drama.

Other options available for nursery and Early Years learning include Ladybird Montessori School on Sheldon Avenue, and Avenue Nursery and Pre-Prep.

Secondary schools in Highgate recently celebrated A-level and GCSE success, with St Aloysius RC College, Highgate Wood School and La Sainte Union RC Secondary all contributing to improved results in Haringey, Islington and Camden boroughs.

For parents not afraid of a steep termly fee, Highgate School on North Road will be fully co-educational from this September and for children aged 3 to 18 (pre-prep to senior). The school has enviable exam results at both A-level and GCSE; entry is not automatic, however, even for those with deep pockets.

Prospective entrants to the senior school must sit an 11+ entrance examination including English, Maths and non-verbal reasoning, and attend an interview. Roughly 120 pupils enter the senior school each year.

Highgate School is not the only independent school choice available in N6 - Channing School (for girls aged 4 to 18) recently reported A-level success and is proud of its Healthy School status.

What do you think about the choice of schools available in Highgate? Are you happy with your child's school? Are you a parent of one of the many London children who attend school out of their home borough? Let us know below!
