Hornsey Town Hall celebrates its 75th birthday this Thursday, with an exhibition of photographs and videos exploring the use of the building over the years. 'STILL' uses images of vacated spaces revealing traces of previous human activity, to create a haunting narrative inspired by the building.

Renowned as the first Modernist building in the UK, Hornsey Town Hall was completed in 1935 and is now Grade II* listed. The Town Hall was used as the headquarters of the Borough of Hornsey until 1966, when that borough was subsumed into Haringey. The building has since undergone a number of changes of use; planning permission for refurbishment of the Town Hall into an arts and community centre was granted this summer.

Artist Roelof Bakker says about his new work, "I spent a number of days over the first six months of 2010 investigating the inside spaces of this Modernist building. Although interested in the architecture of the building, I also set out to record traces of human presence and activity from distant and more recent pasts. Chanced upon still lives are featured alongside poignant vistas of faded grandeur."

'STILL' is open for private view on Thursday 4 November from 6.30 to 9pm, and then on Friday 5 November and Saturday 6 November from 10.30 to 4pm and Sunday 7 November from 12 noon to 4.30pm. Entrance to the exhibition is from Weston Park.
