The beautiful town of Sandwich is one of the original medieval
cinque ports set up by Edward the Confessor to defend our coastline. The Salutation ( Grade 1 listed manor house) has a wonderful garden created by Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll in 1911. It was neglected for 25 years before the current owners took over in 2004; the head gardener Steve Edney has overseen an extensive restoration
which has received much press coverage including an article in the RHS's 'The Garden'.

Goodnestone Park near Canterbury, built in 1704 is the seat of
the Fitzwalter family; it was voted the sixth favourite garden in Britain in a poll conducted by the Daily Telegraph. Explore the woodland garden, walled garden with old fashioned roses, a gravel garden and two arboretums. There is a connection to Jane Austin who stayed here.

The coach leaves and returns to Wilton Road by Victoria train station.
