What? No mention of Capri, the hidden gem of Highgate? Lovely little Italian place with such a lovely informal atmosphere. Number 1 (IMHO, of course).

OK…

So, Capri, located on Archway Road, is a small but perfectly-formed Italian restaurant. Despite its size, it's big on atmosphere and the owners are only too happy to accommodate, even if you don't have a booking.

The food is typical Italian with a great selection of pizza and pasta dishes, and incredibly all cooked virtually in front of your eyes by (I presume) the owner. Service is quick and I've never had to wait very long for the food itself, which when it comes is of equal, if not more, quality of any other, more expensive venue.

The surroundings and decor feel genuine and authentic, no faux-Italiano here! The walls are covered in mementos from 'home', including the owner's passion for Fiat 500s (one of which is always proudly parked outside the restaurant, making it even easier to find!).

I've always had great experiences here and the owners also always fall over themselves to make children welcome too, which is a nice touch. It may not have the glamour of its more expensive contemporaries, but for the authentic Italian experience, it's second to none.
