Making the Difference in Highgate

Do you have a great idea for a local project that will bring positive change to Highgate? Applications for Haringey council's Making the Difference 2011/12 fund are now open.
Grants of up to £5,000 will be made for projects which improve the quality of the local environment and the lives of local residents, promoting a lasting impact where possible. Previous grants have been made for art, music and craft projects, gardening schemes, community days and renovation projects.
Cllr Bernice Vanier, Cabinet Member for Communities, says, "Here is a chance for groups to really make a difference in their neighbourhoods by deciding for themselves how funds can be spent locally. I look forward to some very interesting suggestions as to how community life can benefit from the Making the Difference Fund."
Applications must be made by recognised groups and projects must be complete by March 2012. Individual grants are decided by Haringey's Area Committees; projects funded in 2010/11 include a community arts festival at Hornsey Town Hall, and a growing project at Highgate Wood School run by Positive Earth.
Applications close on August 23 and can be made online at the Making the Difference page on Haringey's website. For more information, email safercommunities@haringey.gov.uk
