A Lordship Lane trader who sold cigarettes to an underage youth has been fined £125.
Senathrajah Maheswaren, owner of Vins News, Lordship Lane, Tottenham, was found guilty at Highgates Magistrates Court on 2 January of selling cigarettes to an underage test purchaser.
During test purchasing operation by Haringey Trading Standards officers and police, an obviously underage police cadet bought cigarettes from Mr Maheswaren and was not challenged about his age.
Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Nilgun Canver, said: "Selling to young people who risk getting hooked at an early age is illegal and unacceptable. We will continue to work with the police to stamp this out in Haringey."
Mr Maheswaren was also ordered to pay costs of £125 and a £15 victim surcharge.
