The Mayor of Haringey, Cllr David Browne, today appealed to local people to join him in wearing their poppies with pride this autumn.
Cllr Browne is backing the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, which begins tomorrow (Friday 26 October) and runs until Monday 12 November.
He will start the fund-raising at a dinner dance tomorrow night at Walthamstow Assembly Hall to formally launch this year's appeal for north east London.
Cllr Browne said: "With service men and women still giving their lives in Afghanistan and elsewhere, wearing a poppy has never been more relevant. It is a small way in which we can all honour the memory of those who have given their lives in service to their country. I hope Haringey residents will join me in paying tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice."
Money collected by the Poppy Appeal supports the Royal British Legion's welfare and benevolent work in support of all serving and ex-service people and their families.
Poppies and donation boxes can be found in each of Haringey's nine libraries, and on the reception desks at Haringey Civic Centre, High Road, Wood Green, and River Park House, directly opposite Wood Green tube.
Residents are also invited to join one of the borough's Remembrance Day services and wreath-laying ceremonies as follows:

- 10.45am - Local schoolchildren, clergy and residents will gather at the War Memorial in the Garden of Remembrance at Tottenham Cemetery, White Hart Lane.
Sunday 11 November – Remembrance Sunday
- 10.30am - Hornsey War Memorial, Hornsey Health Centre, Park Road, N8. Middlesex Regiment Association and Hornsey Cadets will hold a short wreath-laying service at the memorial, followed by an 11am service at St Mary with St George Church, corner of Cranley Gardens and Park Road.
