Highgate is gearing up for its annual fix of hearts and flowers as all around us gift shops, florists and restaurants get ready for the festival of love in two Tuesdays' time. Below, we've rounded up some of the best Vaentine's treats - and next week we'll have some Valentine's alternatives for those of you who spurn the kiss of Cupid's bow!

My heart starts missing a beat - what will you be doing this Valentine's Day?
Romantic dining
As ever, may of our favourite Highgate restaurants have special offers and themed menus for Valentine's Day. Cafe Rouge is offering 3 romantic French-themed courses and a glass of Crémant de Bourgogne for £25 per person (13-19 Feb;) and Strada has a special 2-course menu for just £20. Or why not try five of Zizzi's Cichetti ("little bites") for £18? Perfect for a bit of couply sharing!
Away from the chains, Fabrizzio's is often recommended by readers for its cosy and authentic ambience - book early if you want to be sure of getting a table at this small but very popular restaurant. We're also big fans of 500 restaurant down by Archway roundabout, or the award-winning cuisine at the Rose and Crown. Early booking for all is recommended.
Flowers and gifts
Our favourite florists are already preparing their bouquets - get yourself an opulent arrangement of a dozen red roses, or perhaps a more tasteful single from readers' favourite Covington Flowers, Village Flowers on the High Street, or Janets on Archway Road. Le Chocolatier on the High Street has a tempting range of handmade chocolates and truffles, including heart-shaped delicacies and diabetic chocolates, as well as a good range of cards and gift wrap.
Get beautiful
If you're looking for ways to look your best on Valentine's Day (or just a midwinter pick-me-up), there are lots of February offers to take advanatge of in Highgate. Save £25 on a universal countour wrap and microdermabrasion facial at Beautiful at the top of Holloway Road to reveal both a slimmer waist and a brighter complexion - perfect for date night! Get your hair glowing with a blow dry at BBC3 Hair, or treat yourself to a moisturising, long-lasting Brazilian blow dry for £150. Hilltop Beauty Salon on the High Street also has a great range of gift certificates from £10 - we're sure a voucher for a manicure or massage would make a very welcome gift!
