A series of assaults and muggings on and around the Parkland Walk nature reserve has led the Friends of Parkland Walk advising caution when using the walk as a route home after dark.

A pleasant walk in daytime - but local groups advise caution after dark
Two men, one an off-duty police officer, were attacked and seriously injured on the walk in the early evening of November 30. On the same day, three women were mugged in two separate incidents on nearby streets. A fifty-year old man has been arrested in connection with the assault.
The string of incidents serves as a reminder to exercise caution when using the popular walk now that winter nights are drawing in. All three attacks took place around 6pm - a time when many people are returning home from work, but which in winter is already well after sunset.
The Friends of Parkland Walk advises commuters and local walkers to be vigilant and to turn off the walk if concerned. Advice from the Metropolitan Police also notes that opportunistic theft increases in the run-up to Christmas, so stay alert, keep valuables out of sight and stick to well-lit areas if possible.
