The Mayor of London's Outer London Fund, created this summer to support the improvement of high streets and shopping areas in London's outer boroughs, has awarded a total of £92,500 to Archway to enhance the town centre and encourage business in the run-up to Christmas.
The three-year fund, launched in June, was designed to make a visible difference to shopping streets and public spaces. Almost £10million has been awarded to thirty projects in Round One, open to town centre projects that can be delivered before December.
Mayor Boris Johnson said, "This fund is a vital shot in the arm for our town centres and just the help needed to get new projects off the ground that wouldn't otherwise happen. It is vital we address the historic neglect of the outer boroughs that preceded this mayoralty and this is one of the ways we can start delivering growth."
The funding granted to Archway will pay for new plants, an art installation to brighten the town centre, new Christmas lights and a campaign to encourage residents to shop locally.
Last winter's Big Rock Candy Fountain helped light up the night around Archway Station. We're looking forward to seeing what this year's installation will bring.
